Surrounding Publix Field in Lakeland, Florida is over an acre of EMPIRE Zoysia welcoming fans to the Lakeland Flying Tigers minor league stadium. Superintendent Bryan French needed a grass that was durable, able to withstand the foot traffic of thousands of fans over the course of a season while at the same time, being relatively simple to manage. EMPIRE is denser than Florida’s common grass varieties like Floratam St. Augustine helping stop weeds before they get started. It provides a picturesque “front door” to the complex.
“It looks good. It’s really kind of maintenance-friendly and you can spray more things on it than Floratam (St. Augustine). The front entrance is my doorway so it’s got to look good.”
