Delivering Confidence and Grass: How Sod Solutions Professionals Powers Large-Scale HOA Projects

When turfgrass challenges strike residential communities, homeowner associations and property managers rely on Sod Solutions Professionals to lead the way, from diagnosing turfgrass issues to sourcing the right grass and managing logistics from start to finish. With deep industry knowledge and a national network of experienced contractors, Sod Solutions Professionals brings clarity and confidence to a complex process.

"Our team enjoys working with homeowner associations to help manage projects and source the best grass variety for their community. We have helped many HOAs resolve some pretty serious issues and we look forward to assisting others," said Executive Director of Sod Solutions Professionals, Erin Wilder.

Wilder explained that Sod Solutions Professionals oversees the entire process and partners with experienced contractors to handle on-the-ground installation work. One of these partners is South Florida–based Sheffield Ag Services, which specializes in custom turfgrass installations, particularly for equestrian farm communities in the Wellington area.

“For larger-scale projects, or really projects at any scale, having Sod Solutions on your team to answer day-to-day or specific questions is extremely important,” Sheffield Ag Services President Clay Sheffield said. “I can handle most things, but when it comes to scientific questions about grasses, their team brings the knowledge and support that makes a real difference. If there’s a problem, they’re going to find a solution.”

With a background in vegetable harvesting and farming, Sheffield has long been interested in turfgrass and eventually entered the niche of installing sprigs and big rolls of bermudagrass. Today, his team also grades and installs sod for sports fields, golf courses and parks. He praised the Sod Solutions Professionals team for being so easy to work with and for connecting him to more opportunities and helping with consistent grass supply through their grower network.

“I have a good relationship with a lot of farms,” he explained, “but there are times they don’t have the product or I can’t get it. So I’ll reach out to Sod Solutions Professionals because they have a large list of growers that represent them and to me, that’s pretty important.”

Handling HOA Challenges with Expertise

One standout HOA project is Valencia Palms, a residential community in Delray Beach. About five years ago, lawns in Valencia Palms began dying due to Lethal Viral Necrosis (LVN), a fatal turfgrass disease caused by Sugarcane Mosaic Virus. Sod Solutions Professionals helped diagnose the issue and, after meeting with the HOA’s landscape committee, recommended CitraBlue® St. Augustine as the replacement grass because it has not shown signs of infection from the virus. Since 2020, over 2 million square feet of CitraBlue have been installed throughout the community.

“That’s been our largest project,” Sheffield said. “Working with Sod Solutions on a project like that is a no-brainer. It’s like buying straight from the factory. You get firsthand service and deep product knowledge instead of going secondhand just to save a buck.”

He also praised the team for making projects more personable and helping clients feel confident throughout the process. They’ve been tremendously helpful not just at Valencia Palms but across a wide range of jobs. Many large HOAs continue working with Sod Solutions Professionals, often bringing back trusted contractors like Sheffield Ag Services to maintain consistency.

The multi-year scope of Valencia Palms illustrates the full value of working with Sod Solutions Professionals, from expert diagnosis and planning to bringing in reliable partners who get the job done right. For any HOA looking for a team to specify, source, install and manage a turfgrass project from start to finish and even after, Sheffield stands by his recommendation. “They won't find a better group to work with as far as knowledge of the material and resources and availability to get work completed. Whether they use us or somebody else, they (Sod Solutions Professionals) seem to have a large group of resources all the way around, which really helps out.”

The Right Tools and Team for the Job

Sod Solutions Professionals continues to lead and manage complex turfgrass projects, bringing in crews like Sheffield Ag Services to ensure smooth on-site execution. Backed by manpower, equipment and jobsite experience, Sheffield’s team consistently delivers high-quality results. His team includes professional supervisors and laborers, with staffing ramping up during the peak summer season.

In January 2024, Sod Solutions Professionals oversaw the logistics of a unique export project to the Caribbean, bringing in Sheffield Ag Services to transfer CitraZoy® sod onto new pallets for shipment to a resort in St. Vincent.

Last year, they also partnered to deliver and install over 10 acres of big rolls of bermudagrass at Hialeah Race Track, including fraise mowing and regrassing along the horse track. In another South Florida project, Sheffield’s team installed big rolls of Celebration® Bermudagrass with Sod Solutions Professionals providing sourcing and support throughout the process.

“Sheffield Ag Services has proven time and again that they’re a reliable, capable partner,” said Christopher Buechele, Director of Business Development for Sod Solutions Professionals. “Whether it’s a complex HOA regrassing project or a fast-moving sports turf install, we trust their team to handle the job with professionalism, the right equipment and a real understanding of what success looks like on site.”
