Harbour Ridge Awarded “2021 Florida Celebration Golf Course of the Year”
Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club Director of Golf Tim Cann and his golf course maintenance team were selected as the “2021 Florida Celebration Golf Course of the Year” Award recipients. The award is given annually to talented maintenance professionals who display excellence in maintaining Celebration® or Latitude 36® Bermudagrass golf courses and sports fields. The award is presented annually at the Florida Turfgrass Association Conference & Show.
On Thursday, Nov. 11, Sod Solutions Executive Director of Business & Professional Development, Erin Wilder presented Cann with the award.
Featuring 18-hole courses from Pete & P.B. Dye and Joe Lee, Harbour Ridge offers a quiet sanctuary to contrast a very busy southeast Florida. Developed in the mid-1980s, both courses feature wall-to-wall Celebration Bermudagrass on the tees, roughs and fairways.
Cann, the club’s director of golf, has been a golf course superintendent for over 29 years. When renovating, he explained they were looking for a turfgrass that over time would aggressively take over any previous bermuda remnants on the course. Celebration has done that job quite well and exceeded their expectations.
“The grasses we had in the past weren’t as resilient. They would fail under the environmental conditions we had in the wintertime. The Celebration doesn’t go through that same failure that the other grasses have,” said Cann.
Previous winners of the award include, Florida Atlantic Softball Stadium, The Country Club of Naples, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, The Club Pelican Bay in Naples, Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, Orlando FC’s Exploria Stadium and North Palm Beach Country Club.
