NorthBridge® Bermuda a Stand Out for the Crimson Tide’s Baseball Stadium

Sewell-Thomas Stadium, also known as “The Joe”, opened in March 1948 as the home field for the University of Alabama baseball team. In 2015 the stadium underwent a complete modernization renovation and following the makeover, switched to NorthBridge® Bermudagrass.

Athletic Grounds Director Jon Dewitt loves the recuperative ability that NorthBridge displays along with its color and the fact that they don’t need to overseed with its cold hardiness. NorthBridge is also featured as the grass covering the perennially ranked softball team’s field as well.

Dewitt said that the dark-to-light appearance from the mowing pattern that gives the field a striping effect is one of the main things they get feedback on. “That speaks to its (NorthBridge’s) aesthetics. It’s got a very fine leaf texture, the color; it’s a beautiful grass,” he said.

The NorthBridge was provided by Poinsett Turfgrass Company and the project was managed by Sod Solutions Professionals.
