Mississippi State Will Breed Celebration & Discovery

Sod Solutions has also entered into a research agreement with Mississippi State University to breed selections from both Celebration and Discovery Bermudagrass.  These two cultivars have unique characteristics that MSU will use in developing a bermudagrass or bermudagrasses of the future.

Celebration has been rated the top bermudagrass in various trials for wear tolerance, shade tolerance, drought tolerance and recovery and divot recovery. These features have made it a standard grass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Trials (NTEP).  Discovery is an extremely slow vertical grower with which is able to be mowed in many instances, just once per month.  It has an exceptional shade tolerance as well based on NC State research.

Wayne Philly will head up the project.  The project will take 4 or 5 years to come up with final selections.
